FAAM is building a Gigafactory in Teverola for the production of cells, modules, and battery packs for Electric Vehicles, Energy Storage, Industrial, and Special applications. This is to be underpinned by a strong R&D Department.
In joining us you will take part in a very strategic project for the European lithium battery value chain.
FAAM is currently seeking a Electrolyte Scientist to join their R&D team in Teverola, Italy. The ideal candidate will be responsible for laboratory-oriented tasks, with a specific focus on developing electrolyte formulations for lithium and sodium-ion batteries. This role requires expertise in small molecule organic electrolyte chemistry, additives and appropriate electrochemical characterisation. Candidates should possess academic or industrial experience related to the development of lithium-ion batteries. As part of their responsibilities, the Electrolyte Scientist will independently design and execute experiments, perform data analysis, and collaborate within the R&D team.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and validate strategies to optimize electrolyte composition, enhancing battery performance
- Conduct thorough analysis and characterization of electrolyte formulations, additives, and electrode-electrolyte interactions to gain a comprehensive understanding of their impact on battery performance.
- Demonstrate scalability of new formulations and materials, through coin cells, to single and multi-layer pouch cells.
- Interpretation and analysis of data for R&D team and support to Production. This includes making recommendations to management.
- Work with the R&D team to evaluate new technologies and processes.
- Support the effective technology transfer of new designs to the production team.
- Support management in the deployment of a Technology Roadmap – including (but not limited to) technologies, active materials and processing.
- Participate in European and global conferences and represent the company.
- Support the construction/improvement of the R&D team.
Requirements
- PhD (Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or related field), or MSc with industrial experience (3+ years)
- Strong knowledge of electrolytes, cathode and anode materials, as well as other components (e.g. separators/electrodes, battery devices, etc.)
- Experience in the manufacturing process of Li-ion cells
- Experience in R&D projects
- Fluency in English (oral and written) is a MUST
- Fluency in Italian (oral and written) is a PLUS
- Ability to work under pressure, with flexibility and to manage tight deadlines
