A new contract worth a total of EUR 1.3 billion will enable Fincantieri to enrich the Italian Navy's fleet with two new submarines.

This contract was signed between the large shipbuilding group and the International Organisation for Armament Cooperation (Occar) and will see Liguria as the area most involved in both construction and research and development activities. The command and control system for the underwater vessels will be developed by the Leonardo Group, with sites in Rome, Pomezia and Genoa, while the Livorno site will be the hub for the components. Regarding the complex propulsion system of the new submarines, the Italian company FIB S.p.A., through its FAAM brand, will provide its own lithium-ion battery system, which will be integrated by Fincantieri.
